Universalcoin is a gold dealer based out of Texas. They have been providing precious metals to people in all 50 states since 1994. In addition, they have some IRA services available, though their website doesn't have a ton of information about how those work.
The company will also purchase precious metals from you if you meet certain requirements.
Through the company's online store, you can buy gold and silver coins and bars.
Dr. Michael Fuljenz
A lot of the company's reputation comes from the company president, Dr. Michael Fuljenz. He is an author and speaker who has been nationally recognized as an expert in the precious metals industry. In fact, he has been the recipient of over 60 awards due to his efforts to educate consumers about precious metals.
The Numismatic Literary Guild has given his books Best of the Year awards. He also features as an expert consultant on national and local television programs when discussing precious metals. His work has been quoted in USA Today, the Los Angeles Times, and the Wall Street Journal.
Mike serves as a member of the Board of Directors for the Industry Council for Tangible Assets. This prestigious group is made up of the foremost precious metals experts in the country, and it helps people to stay up to date on new regulations and economic concerns. He is also on the board of the Numismatic Literary Guild.
Universalcoin has a variety of educational materials available to teach people about the benefits and drawbacks of precious metals investment. They also explain the potential benefits of investing in rare coins, though this tends to be a riskier investment than normal bullion.
Some of the resources include articles, videos, newsletters, and books written by Mike Fuljenz. He is behind the majority of the educational materials, leveraging his expertise to help the average consumer learn about the world of precious metals.
Several publications are available for free download when you become a client. You can also talk to the company's staff members about the best strategies to promote stable investment growth while protecting your assets. Each customer receives advice tailored to their specific goals, needs, and time frame.

Personal Gold Guide
If you want a book that will tell you everything you should know about gold investing, you can use the personal gold guide. This book is full of economic analysis and commentary from Mike Fuljenz.

The company has other reports and resources available for you to peruse. Among these are explanations of why coin certification is important, reports on the current metals market, and comparison guides to look at different precious metals investment companies.
Gold and Silver Products
There is a large variety of gold and silver products available through the company. They have access to rare coins from mints all over the world. In addition to IRA-eligible gold and silver, they also have some other gold and silver investments.
You can browse the company's inventory by their rare coins or top investment picks. When you browse by category instead, gold coins and bars are available from:
Silver is also available in all of these categories, except that there are no silver coins offered by the Mexican Mint.
In addition to silver rounds, bars, and coins, you can purchase silver bullets. These are available in one or two ounce sizes.
You will need to check the inventory to see whether certain coins and products are in stock. It seems like the company often runs out of coins that are in high demand. Fortunately, the website does inform you of when an item is out of stock, so you're unlikely to purchase something they don't have on hand.
The company does state on their website that they offer some IRA services. However, there isn't a lot of information about them. They don't explain the account setup process, and they haven't said which custodians or depositories they partner with.
When you set up a precious metals IRA, it will need to be maintained by a registered custodian and held in an IRS-approved depository. Precious metals IRA companies often have partnerships with these entities. It's a good idea to work with a company that can streamline the whole setup process for you, and it's not clear whether Universalcoin will do that.
If you want to get started with the IRA process, you can fill out an online form to contact the company. They'll reach out with more information about what to expect in the future.
Is Universalcoin a Scam?
Universalcoin is not a scam. The company has been part of the precious metals industry since 1994, and they have an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau. But they do have mixed reviews from customers, including some serious allegations and complaints.
The company has notified the BBB that they want customers with any problems to contact their customer service department. They say that this will help them fix the issue more quickly. It also has the bonus of keeping complaints from being visible on the BBB website.
There have been several Ripoff Reports written about the company, which is concerning. On the BBB website itself, seven complaints have been filed within the past three years. Several of those were filed in the previous year.
However, the A+ rating and accreditation does seem to indicate that the company does its best to resolve any consumer issues. Let's take a look at the problems that were reported.
One complaint was filed in April of 2021. The complainant said that they placed an order and paid by check. After the check cleared, the customer contacted the company to find out when their order would be shipped. They tried on three different days in the following week, but they did not receive any response.
Finally, they were able to get through to a sales representative after waiting for thirty minutes one day. The representative was unable to verify the order status. Then she said that the customer would receive a call back, but that it might be several days.
The company responded to say that they have records of the phone conversation between the representative and the customer. At the time of purchase, the customer was advised that there might be shipping delays of up to four weeks due to the increased demand. The customer's items were shipped two days after the complaint was filed.
As part of their apology for the incident, the company sent two one-ounce silver coins with the package for free.
This response by the company was impressive. They did take the time to address every one of the customer's concerns, and they made an effort to make the situation right. According to them, the lack of phone response and follow-up call was due to the extremely high call volume at the time.
The customer said that the resolution was satisfactory.
Another complaint was from someone who said that they paid for their precious metals by check. The package was shipped after the check cleared. But then the package was lost in the mail, and the customer didn't receive it. A month before filing the complaint, the company had said they would file an insurance claim.
Despite the customer contacting them numerous times and leaving messages asking about the claim status, the company had not responded to them.
The company did respond to say that when they received the complaint, they immediately refunded the customer for the order. They also sent the customer several silver coins and rounds, along with a book, as an apology. The customer said that she did believe the resolution was satisfactory.
There have been a few Ripoff Reports filed regarding the company. But there have also always been efforts by the company to resolve any issues. They have become part of the Ripoff Report Corporate Advocacy program, which is made up of businesses that want to show the highest level of care to their disgruntled customers.
Ripoff Report has indicated that the company makes strong efforts to offer solid customer service. They quickly and fairly address any filed complaints, and they have attempted to resolve all issues reported through the website. In fact, they are one of the top performers in the Corporate Advocacy program.
Despite the customer reports, the company has addressed them well enough that they have been given high ratings for their commitment to customer care.
Pros & Cons of Universalcoin
Universalcoin is a precious metals dealer that has been part of the industry for more than 25 years. The company president is an expert in precious metals and is dedicated to helping people invest. While they do seem committed to resolving customer issues, they might not be the best company to invest with.
Several customers have filed complaints regarding the long delivery times or lost packages. The company has admitted that several packages have been lost in the mail. In addition, customers report having trouble getting in contact with customer service representatives, which the company says is due to high call volume.
There are other companies that have more consistently positive customer feedback. They also have a higher level of transparency regarding their precious metals IRA setup process. And they don't have to spend a lot of time resolving customer complaints, because they are less likely to receive customer complaints in the first place.
Overall, we believe that there is a better option when it comes to your investment.
